Frequently Asked Questions

LifeSafer appointments must be confirmed by our location

All appointments scheduled through LifeSafer.com, a LifeSafer portal or the LifeSafer call center for our location must also be confirmed directly by St. Paul Ignition Interlock. A LifeSafer booking message or reminder does not, by itself, confirm our location's availability for the requested service and time.

Contact us directly to confirm the date, time, service, vehicle requirements and any agreed deposit before traveling to our location. If the time shown by LifeSafer differs from the time we have confirmed, contact us and LifeSafer promptly so the discrepancy can be resolved.

Do not ignore a calibration date, service deadline, device warning or program requirement while waiting for confirmation. Contact your device provider promptly if a required visit is approaching or you need urgent device support. This local confirmation process does not change your provider's or program's requirements.

Call 651-292-1485 or text our service center to confirm.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Service is appointment-based, and the appointment must be confirmed before time is reserved.

What information should I provide?

Provide the participant name, phone number, email address, vehicle year, make and model, and the service requested. Photos or program documents may be requested.

What if my vehicle has warning lights?

Tell us before the appointment. A check-engine light, charging-system concern or other warning may require automotive diagnosis before or after interlock work.

Why is the battery checked?

A weak or failing battery can interrupt programming and create drivability or diagnostic problems. Battery condition is part of vehicle-readiness screening.

Can you service a device installed elsewhere?

Possibly, but previous work may need inspection or correction. Authorization and additional labor may be required.

Do reduced-fee clients follow the same appointment rules?

Yes. Confirmation, vehicle readiness, cancellation and no-show requirements apply to all appointments unless a written program rule requires otherwise.

Can I request same-day or after-hours service?

You may request it, but availability is not guaranteed. A convenience fee or deposit may apply.

What if my vehicle has warning lights or problems?

Please tell us before the appointment. Existing warning lights, drivability concerns, battery or charging issues, and aftermarket electronics may affect whether service can proceed safely. During installation, a required battery power-down and reconnection can reveal conditions that were previously not displayed. We document and assess such conditions first. If diagnostic scanning, testing, programming, materials, or repair outside standard interlock service is needed, we explain it and obtain your authorization before any additional chargeable work begins.

What do diagnostic scans cost?

A pre-install diagnostic scan and review, up to one hour, is $139 when needed. Post-install diagnostic tracing is $199 only if an issue must be traced and you ask us to diagnose or address it. Clearing a code or warning light is not a repair and does not establish the cause is corrected. ADAS, airbag, braking, safety-system, and manufacturer-specific issues may require dealer or qualified-specialist diagnosis, calibration, programming, or repair.

How do I request an ignition interlock appointment in St. Paul?

Complete the appointment pre-screening form. Requests are reviewed by staff. Submitting the form does not reserve a time or confirm service; we will contact you about the next steps.

Can I request an appointment while applying for reduced-fee approval?

Please complete the reduced-fee approval process first. Choose your current status accurately. Approved reduced-fee requests require verification and are reviewed for Monday–Thursday, 9:00 a.m.–noon, with one reduced-fee morning slot per day. Staff must confirm availability; a requested date is not a reservation.

What vehicle details does the request form need?

Provide the vehicle year, make, model, full VIN when available, plate and registration state when available, and powertrain: gasoline, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or fully electric. Tell us about unusual vehicles and vehicle concerns. These require review before confirmation or collection of a deposit. Hybrid or electric powertrain does not by itself reject reduced-fee eligibility. Motorcycle and commercial-vehicle booking is not offered.

Does the request form collect payment?

No. The pre-screening form does not collect payment or confirm an appointment. Any applicable payment arrangements are reviewed and disclosed separately before collection. Reduced-fee outside-hours convenience charges are not offered through this request flow.

Ready when you are.

Request online in about two minutes, or call or text — we’ll confirm your time.
